oda ki ekia [here and there]

Date/Time: Date(s) - 04/10/2017 - 08/10/2017 - 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Center for Performing Arts MITOS presents in the frame of KYPRIA International Festival the theatrical performance oda ki ekia [here and there], with selected stories from the medieval Chronicle of Leontios Machairas.

In the theatrical performance oda ki ekia [here and there], a traveling troupe, along with its paraphernalia, tries to set up a play at squares in order to entertain the audience. Their stories consist kind of an explanation for this sweet country of Cyprus and are based on the Chronicle of Leontios Machairas. Chronicle: the first text of the entire Greek literature, written in a local language, the language of the people. Leontios Machairas:  leading medieval Cypriot chronicler. The troupe: Leontios Macheras himself (yes, the leading chronicler himself), to accompany him we have various servants (we do not have accurate historical information about them).

Actors, master and servants, confuse real facts with gossip and paradise, they comment in Cypriot dialect, they narrate in the medieval language, they mix the present with the past, they remember, they forget again, and again not exactly, the order of things. Αt the end of the day, what else can they do!

Leontios Machairas was a Cypriot chronicler of 15th century, that wrote the ‘Chronicle Concerning the Sweet Land of Cyprus’, written in the medieval Cypriot dialect. The chronicle documents events from the visit of Saint Helena to Cyprus until the times of Kings’ Ioannis II death (1458 B.C).

In 2009, MITOS was again engaged with this particular text, with selected stories from Dr. Nadia Anaxagorou – and participated with the show Stories … from the sweet country Cyprus in the Summer Events of Municipality of Limassol.
