Antigone
a chamber tragedy 2019
"Don’t have only one conviction, that only what you say is right and and all else wrong. Who thinks that only his thought is right, that only he has reason and daring, if you open him you’ll see, he will be empty."
As the polis comes out of a war, calmness is necessary. The oncoming conflict between Antigone and Creon, however, on whether or not to bury Antigone’s dead brother Polynices, creates new turbulence in the city. The two do not only remain rooted in their positions, they defend their convictions blindly and absolutely. Antigone believes in duty to her house while Creon makes no exceptions to the laws he has just implemented as the new ruler. Both, then, become a-polis, according to theoretician Cornelius Castoriades.
