The Persians
by Aeschylus
Hero-isms
two-year program 2017
"We will not betray in their darkest hoursThose we love the most."
The play negotiates the Persians’ grief when they are informed of their devastating defeat by the Greeks. Aeschylus transcends the historical context, honors the winners and universalizes the horror. The real destruction of the war is manifested through the Chorus’s song and pain. There is no winner in war. This theater production concludes Hero-isms, a two-year project, included in the official programming of Paphos 2017 European Capital of Culture.
