The Mourning of Pentheus
Bacchae by Euripides
2009 - 2010
A chorus jumps out of the text of Euripides’ Bacchae. The singing of the choral odes is interrupted by short episodes – faits accomplis – with Pentheus being the main character. His disrespect towards Dionysus and his subsequent punishment give Pentheus a prominent position in the sphere of tragedy. The choral parts are in the ancient Greek language as originally performed, and were practiced based on the rules of prosody. The movement is inspired by ancient Greek pottery.
