Open Call for participation
theYard.Residency.25
15th version of the artistic residency program at Vinegar Factory
The Center of Performing Arts MITOS announces the Open Call for participation in the artistic residency program, theYard.Residency.25, and invites professional creators or artistic groups to respond with proposals on the thematic the day after, for the program of 2025.
What is theYard.Residency:
The Center of Performing Arts MITOS organizes the annual residency program of theYard.Residency since 2011, based at the art space Vinegar Factory in Lemesos that works as a safe environment for creation, gathering, hospitality and presentation. Having as a core the body and it’s performativity, theYard supports inter-artistic and interdisciplinary collaborations. It is a residency program that develops co-productions with creators and groups from Cyprus and abroad throughout the year. It is evolving into an important platform for free artistic expression, experimentation and examination, exchange and mobility. It strengthens the dialogue on the issues of polyphony, of multiple narratives, of active relationship with the city, participation and democratization.
This year’s version
For this edition of theYard.25, the artistic director of the program, Elena Agathokleous, invited an artistic team to propose the concept of the year and make some changes to the structure of the program. The artistic team are Constantina Peter (creative director, dramaturge), Ioulita Toumazi (art theorist, curator), Evita Ioannou (director).
The theme οf 2025:
An important factor in shaping theYard.Residency.25 program will be the understanding and response of the proposals on the general theme of MITOS for 2025:
the day after becomes a prompt to reflect on this open-ended concept that asks: How could the day after look, feel or be like ,’the after now’. It becomes a gesture towards imagining the day that is yet to come, a different day, a new day. It can have light or darkness, or both. But “the day after” always implies a futurity that is in itself a political statement in our current world where even imagining the day after feels difficult. It follows the idea that the act of imagining the future, which connotes hope for different days and another world, is a radical act towards change.
The projects can either focus on the micro- or tha macro-scale of “the day after”, the personal or the collective, the mundane or the grandiose days after. Just make sure, there will be a day after.
