MITOS celebrates the 10th anniversary of the artistic residency program, theYard.Residency, with its 2020 release and the theme “Suspended World”. The space of Vinegar Factory, has been hosting stories and actions of artists from Cyprus and abroad for 12 years and functions as an Open Stage, as defined by D. Massay: “Openness of a space is only its constitutional quality to be constantly under construction”.

 

The constant suspension of the space contributes to the symbolic power of actions that challenge and separate from the boundaries of social life and provides the opportunity for redefinition. The identities carried out are exposed to flatulence, the relation of the self and the other are compared: what does people’s actions have in common or do not have. The Vinegar Factory as a stage is a mere space in which spectators find themselves in possible new worlds by experiencing, not in their imagination.

 

For the main program of theYard.Residency.20, artists have been invited to collaborate and create new works. Also, with this Open Call we invite creators, active in theater and performance (art, dance, music) to complete the participations for 2020. MITOS, through theYard, supports artistic creation, experimentation and methodology, the dialogue between artists and audiences, the exchange and the mobility of artists. . The proposals will be evaluated by a committee that will select those that are related to the theme “Suspended World”, that stand out for the contemporary approach and integrated artistic proposal.

 

Collaboration Setup

The theYard.Residency programme is a platform for the active involvement of the participants. All makers, groups and organisations selected are free to express themselves artistically in any form and manner and are expected to act responsibly for their production. The selected proposals for the theYard.Residency.20 will be ensured:

1.Free use of the Vinegar Factory, (7 days and up to three performances). The final duration of the residency (number of days, dates and times) will be set between the participants and MITOS, depending on the needs of the proposal and the availability of space. On the first day of their residency, participants will be informed about the operation of the space and will be assisted by the theYard team to setup the space according to their needs

2.Each proposal selected for the will be ensured free use of the technological equipment and infrastructure of the Vinegar Factory. The audience capacity of the space is approximately 60 people and the equipment is reported in detail in the Application Form. The program offers technical assistance (4 hours). For all other technical needs participants must acquire their own technician.

3.MITOS will support the artists by assigning a mentor according to the projects.

4.Profits of events will belong exclusively to the participants themselves (ticket fee €5-€10 after discussion with theYard team). Participants can apply for and claim grants for their production, but not for the services already offered by MITOS in the frame of the program. In the case of breach, the participation will be canceled. To facilitate applications for funding, MITOS may provide certificates of participation upon request.

5.The program supports but is not responsible for the promotion of each production. Each participant is responsible for the promotion of their own event.

6.The theYard.Residency.20 offers a simple audiovisual recording of the work for archival purposes in digital format.

7.For artists from abroad, we offer accommodation but there is no possibility to cover transportation tickets. MITOS will help with translations of texts relating to their participation, production assistance, as well as the provision of any relevant information regarding their stay in Cyprus.

 

The deadline for the proposals is Friday, 20th of December 2019, at 23:59. For the proposal to be valid, the applicant must sent the completed ‘application form’ with all the requirements which you can find below. The application can be sent via email to theYard.Residency@mitos.org.cy, with the title: for participation in theYard.Residency.20. Audiovisual material that cannot be sent electronically, it can be posted to the address: Centre of Performing Arts MITOS, theYard.Residency.20, Astiggos 1, 3016 Limassol, Cyprus. The applications will be evaluated by a committee and results will be announced by email by the 27th of December 2019.
